On April 17, 2020, Governor Greg Abbott issued Executive Order No. GA-16 (PDF)

The order directs people not to visit long-term care facilities unless to provide critical assistance as determined by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Long-term care facilities are nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, day activity and health services facilities, inpatient hospice units, prescribed pediatric extended care centers, intermediate care facilities for people with an intellectual disability or related conditions, and home and community-based services residences.

I moved back to Golden Age Home just in time for all of us to become acquainted with COVID-19. The extra care of the residents during this trying time has been stellar. Arrangements have been made for virtual doctor visits when essential medical attention were necessary or transportation with all necessary precautions has been provided. I don’t know any place I would rather be to wait out this trying time. We continue to receive 3 nutritious meals a day with healthy choices. The staff has been knocking themselves out to see after our needs while protecting us from the possibilities of contacting those who might expose us to the disease.

Have you had any COVID-19 positive cases?

The Golden Age Home facility has had residents and team members who have become infected with COVID-19 during the course of 2020.  Thankfully, most of those infected had very mild cases of the virus and ALL residents and team members have fully recovered  and we are currently COVID-free.

What are the visiting procedures?

As of October 5th, Golden Age Home is able to offer 4 different types of visits for residents and their loved ones.  All visits must be scheduled in advance.  You can do this by calling or emailing the main office during business hours of (Monday-Friday 9a.m.-4p.m.). We look forward to seeing our families soon.  Visits can continue as long as the facility remains COVID-free.

New admissions are accepted after a thorough screening.  This screening includes general medical needs as well as exposure to COVID-19.  Paperwork is done in the conference room located in the business section.  Tours of the community are done by viewing the tour given through Facebook live.

A new resident may be required to undergo a 14-day quarantine upon admission.  This is determined on a case by case basis.

What are the procedures for taking in a new resident? (Due to COVID-19)

All residents are encouraged to participate in TeleMed appointments when at all possible.  Residents are asked to only leave for medically urgent appointments.  If they need to go to the Dr.’s office, Golden Age Home will transport the resident and provide a caregiver when necessary. Those who have completed the necessary steps to become a Designated Essential Caregiver, may attend appointment with the resident either by riding on the bus with the resident or by meeting the resident at the appointment.  Residents, Designated Essential Caregiver and all Golden Age Home team members will be required to wear a mask and follow proper hand hygiene and safe social distancing when possible while out of the community.

Can I take my loved one to the Dr if they need to go during COVID-19?

The Shelter-in-Place order comes from the Governor’s office and Health and Human Services.  They have not given an indication of an end date at this time.

How long will the community be under the Shelter-in-Place order?

While under the Shelter-in-Place order, residents are able to leave the community for medically necessary appointments.  Golden Age Home team members are able to assist with TeleMed appointments, ordering and arranging for delivery of supplies and medications.  Many medical services are available to be provided within the community such as therapy, lab work, x-rays, and more.  Team members will assist in arranging for these services.
